A Family of German Shepherds Will Not Leave the Dumpsters where They Last Stopped by Their Owners

Lisa Reams (director of Saving Grace Animal Rescue) recently learned that two German shepherds had been abandoned at a public landfill near Yazoo in Mississippi. Without giving it much thought, she raced off to help.

However, she was astonished when she reached the rescue center. Not only were there two adults, but two dogs as well.

She persuaded the pack leaders, who are both friendly, to get in her car to transport them safely.

According to Jennifer Brooks, president of NYC Second Rescue, SGAR’s sister shelter in New York, “They both just went right into her car. And then she was able to get the puppies.”

Upon arriving at the Veterinarian’s office, Reams piled the entire family of shepherds into her car where tests revealed that both adults, Luke and Jenny, had heartworms that were treatable.

Miles and Phoenix had positive results, so all four puppies were approved for foster care.

However, finding a foster home has proved more difficult. The entire family was scheduled to travel to NYC Second Chance Rescue because there are many foster homes.

As of now, all four dogs are still available for adoption. The entire family lived at the waste site together for enough time to have another chance at a happy ending. The shelter staff isn’t sure if the family will be adopted together.

“They’re safe now,” Brookes declared. “And they’ll never be put out like that again.”
