The second half The Rings of Power’s inaugural season is here with the fifth episode, PartingsAll characters have so far been aware of or unknowingly moving towards the fight against evil. As Southland slowly becomes darkened, the relationships between humans, dwarves and elves are being tested. There are also campaigns of blood and fire being launched across the town.PartingsLike the episode before, they are another stepping stone to the larger scheme. However, the subplots keep the story afloat.

Harfoot, The Stranger and other characters are back! This is the same episode that saw this absence. In PartingsWe see the bond between Nori, Harfoots strengthening with every passing day. While their journey to find a Haven is not without its difficulties, Nori and the Stranger emerge shining. The Stranger is a child. For instance, when the man first falls, the scene resembles a child in a mother’s womb. You then see Nori providing food, shelter, clothes and, in this episode of the series, even speaking to him. While The Stranger is lost in this world, Nori receives help whenever he can. In a way, he is eternally indebted for her being there for him.

Coming back to Númenor, while the last episode depicted Queen Regent Míriel agreeing to help Galadriel by pledging their military support to liberate the Southlands from the orcs, she has to face numerous challenges for their plan. Durin and Elrond meet Gil-Galad at the High Elf capital in Lindon. But they soon realize that there’s more to it than they thought. Durin and Elrond’s friendships and the decisions ahead test the frail equations between elves and dwarves. Adar, along with his armies, is becoming stronger in the Southlands. Bronwyn and Arondir have to make difficult decisions to save everyone. Adar’s hold on the Southland is subtly terrifying, but what we see is the test of loyalties, and how one misstep can undo everything.

PartingsThis episode touches on all characters and introduces a new one. It also provides an excellent balance of the competing narratives. Númenor is certainly the main focus, as Galadriel and Halbrand navigate their inner turmoil while figuring out a way to aid Southland and defeat Sauron. Based on the current arrangement, it appears that they will assist Arondir, Bronwyn, as well as the Southlands’ refugees. It’s also here that we see the struggles between parents and their children, and how the latter would not adhere to the former’s decisions.
The show gives us glimpses into the characters’ actions but not much about politics or manipulation. Galadriel’s combat skills are shown, as well as the development of her character. This is where the series’ focus remains. As the episode before showed, lore and emotions can often drive characters to make a decision. Partings’The consequences of these choices were the focus. While many may not like the pace of the show, these details are essential for the development and plot of the characters.

It’s so embarrassing that the writers took the famous phrase “Not all who wander are lost”, and made it “wonderful or wander”

So far in the show, Elrond’s and Durin’s friendship remains the most emotional plot, and after them is the equation between Nori and The Stranger. It’s also the actor’s conviction that has impacted their performance, adding new layers to their equation with each passing episode. Perhaps the most beloved characters are the dwarves or harfoots, who feel that they still adhere to J.R.R. Tolkien’s literary legacy. Although we don’t know where The Stranger and the Harfoots are going or if they will cross paths again with Arondir or Galadriel yet, their addition adds a sentimental layer of fantasy to this world. When they face the enemy, we hope that all the characters’ paths will merge.
The RINGS OF Power Episode 5 is another example of my amazement at television. This is the first time I have ever seen this on a television show. It’s great to see the story pick up in speed. Looking forward to the next few episodes. #TheRingsOfPower pic.twitter.com/8H0ZnHTvp7

It appears that so far The Rings of PowerIt is preparing for what we believe to be the final battle against the orcs of Middle-earth’s Southlands. It is therefore deliberately slow. This allows it to build tension before the storm. The final moment of truth, when good and evil meet, will bring about bloodshed, destruction and death. However, the compelling performances and the gradual big fight aren’t quite as bad because the characters continuously evolve as the show gradually finds its voice.
