2022 Election Could Bring Midterm Power Shift To Congress

America will vote today on the midterm elections. The consequences of the results could reverberate throughout the government for many years.

Insider will offer live, real-time results for thousands of races throughout the United States, including every House and Senate, Governor, as well as State Legislative elections.

The GOP is challenging the Democrats’ tenuous hold on the chamber. This is the most important story in the dozens of House races. Midterms are usually disastrous for incumbent presidents, and this election puts control of the House up for grabs. Insider is following close to 90 races that are most crucial. 

The Senate is currently 50-50. Each party wants to control the upper chamber. Six years is the term that senators serve, so any impact of this election could reverberate to at least 2028. It’s possible that the contest for control over the Senate will not be decided by election night. There are likely to be a few races, and counting could continue for many days.

There are many gubernatorial races. These races offer many potential candidates for 2024. More importantly, the winner of the governor’s race from a number key swing states will be able to control the levers of power that surround elections. 

Finally, the Supreme Court’s Dobbs decision will overturn Roe v. Wade and a variety of gubernatorial races will be functionally deciding whether abortion is legal in all states.

This cycle features a number crucial state legislative races. The battles for legislative chambers are crucial this cycle, since individual states have the power to regulate the right of choice.

A number of states will hold referendums for their citizens. These run the gamut, with some potentially legalizing marijuana, others establishing or stripping citizens’  right to abortion access, and others opening up multi-billion dollar gambling markets.
