$2 Million Pininfarina Battista Review: a Super EV

  • The four electric motors that power it produce 1,900 horsepower. 

That’s what you know scene in “Top Gun: Maverick”Tom Cruise’s character is seen flying his fighter jet through the desert in ridiculous speed. Every muscle was engaged to fight the G-forces.

This is kind of what? Driving the Pininfarina BattistaIt’s like. At least that’s what it felt like in my head — minus the majestic soundtrack and threat of nuclear war.

The 1,900-horsepower, $2.2 million horsepower Supercar electricIt is mind-bendingly fast and frighteningly fast, breaking the world record for street-legal cars’ acceleration. The Battista Track in Dubai. Hit 60 mph in just 1.79 secondsIn 4.75 seconds, he hit 124 mph. 

It is amazing in almost every other way, from the way that it can growl at idle to its breathtaking looks. The Battista doesn’t just prove electric vehicles aren’t glorified golf carts or boring commuter cars — it’s also an excellent reason to buy a Powerball ticket every now and then.

Pininfarina’s new brand Pininfarina has launched the Battista model. It is the first model of Pininfarina. The company’s founder Battista Farina (Pinin) Farina was the inspiration for the hypercar. He wanted to build a car, but couldn’t choose between designing iconic Ferrari cars and other brands. 

The Battista’s timeless, classic silhouette reflects this rich history. However, the essence of the Battista is about the moment and pushing the boundaries for what an EV could be.

You’ll notice a futuristic, pulse-like whirr when you approach the Battista. In its most subdued driving setting — aptly named “Calma” — the sound is faint, almost undetectable. Furiosa mode unleashes the supercar’s massive power and loud, aggressive rumble. You can touch the car to feel the vibration, even though it doesn’t have an engine. 

Because nobody can see the car, the Battista continues to purr even while it’s moving. The soundscape — though artificial — injects some theater and drama into a car that could just as easily be as dead quiet as a TeslaOr a Nissan Leaf

The Battista’s doors are like any supercar that is worth its very high price. open up — not out. These include a section on the roof so that you don’t have too much to duck in order to get in. 

The Battista’s driving experience is far more immersive than that of a regular automobile. Its low, deep seats hug you tight. Two touchscreens are placed on the cockpit’s steering wheel, and they face the driver. A small screen just behind the wheel only displays important information such as your speed or range, so it doesn’t distract you from the road ahead. The Battista’s driving settings are selected by a pair of shiny, substantial knobs.

My test car was dressed in stunning tan leather seats, center console and doors. Pininfarina intends to make 150 Battistas Pininfarina cars. Each customer will have a unique choice of options and they won’t be offered to others. Pininfarina estimates that each car requires around 1,300 hours to make. 

I pulled onto the road knowing that the machinery had been meticulously built and cost millions of dollars. Calma was my first car, and I quickly got to know the capabilities of this supercar.

Everything was manageable. After all, Calma unlocks Only About 700 horsepower, and it mainly uses two of the Battista’s four motors. It has One person drives each wheel.) This is where the Battista can travel. Between charging stations, 300 milesAccording to the EPA 

After a satisfying click on the rotary dial to the left, I increased the intensity by switching from Pura to Energica. As the Battista increased its acceleration, the artificial driving sound that was being pumped into the cabin grew louder.

Eventually my copilot, one of Pininfarina’s top engineers, suggested I might be ready for Furiosa — to see what the Battista can do when all of its 1,900 horsepower and 1,726 pound-feet of torque are unleashed. I thought I was too. 

I wasn’t prepared. 

I reached an open road stretch, grabbed the steering wheel and slammed it. In an instant — less than an instant, if that’s even possible — the Battista was gone, hurtling down the road faster, and faster, and faster until I let off the throttle, exiting whatever time-warp I was just in and snapping back into reality.

I couldn’t help but gasp, giggle, and babble incoherently afterward. My brain was still trying to process the events. 

Perhaps foolishly, I believed that the Battista could be just another. Electric car that is very fast. I’ve driven quite a few of them. The Battista, however, is on another planet. It’s kind of like getting shot out of a cannon — except a cannonball slows down, while the Battista relentlessly keeps picking up speed.

I came out of my Battista experience wondering if it was worth it.

For someone who doesn’t have the money to make such a purchase, it’s difficult to answer that question. What is the value of going to space on Jeff Bezos’s rocket ship? It’s possible, if you can afford it. 

Although the Battista is extremely expensive, it’s also very rare and provides an experience that few people will ever have. Let me tell you this: If your lucky enough to have won the $2 billion jackpot, I recommend it. You won’t regret it.
